What is an Internal Review?
Internal reviews are not done by the Social Benefits Tribunal. An internal review is a review of the decision made by the office that made the original decision to refuse assistance, to suspend or cancel assistance or to reduce assistance.


When is an Internal Review conducted?
Within 10 days of receiving a decision from your local office or your Disability Adjudication Unit about your assistance, you can request an internal review of that decision. 
 
The Internal Review must be requested before you can appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal. For further details, please contact your local office or your Disability Adjudication Unit.


Who conducts an Internal Review?
The office that made the original decision conducts the Internal Review. The Social Benefits Tribunal does not conduct Internal Reviews.


How do I apply for an Internal Review?
You must request, in writing, an Internal Review of the decision, within 10 days from receiving it, to the office that made the decision.


How much time do I have to apply for an Internal Review?
You have 10 days from the date you received the decision from the Local Office or Disability Adjudication Unit regarding the refusal to provide assistance or change in the amount of assistance.  For further details, please contact your local office or the Disability Adjudication Unit.
 


What happens if I miss the 10 day deadline?
You can ask your Local Office or Disability Adjudication Unit in writing to extend the time to apply.  They make the decision whether to grant your request to extend the time.  Please contact your Local Office or Disability Adjudication Unit.


What happens if I don't receive a decision of the Internal Review?
If you have requested but not received an internal review decision within 10 days of your request you then have 30 days to file an appeal with the Social Benefits Tribunal.


What happens if I disagree with the Internal Review deicsion?
You can appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal within 30 days after you receive the Internal Review decision.
