The Social Benefits Tribunal (S.B.T.) hears appeals of decisions regarding social assistance that people receive under the Ontario Works Act, 1997 and the Ontario Disability Support Program Act, 1997 . The Social Benefits Tribunal is an independent body created June 1, 1998. Before that time, appeals of social assistance were considered by the Social Assistance Review Board (S.A.R.B.). The Social Assistance Review Board still exists to complete its review of cases under the Family Benefits Act . Eventually, the Social Assistance Review Board will be phased out and all social assistance appeals will be handled by the Social Benefits Tribunal . To find out more click here . |
