Chair's MessageSeptember 2009 As the new Chair of the Social Benefits Tribunal, I look forward to the honour and the challenge of leading this Tribunal. I want to thank and acknowledge Frank Miclash for his work as Acting Chair, and for his gracious support in the transition. I have also been impressed with our great team of dedicated and professional members and staff. I look forward to visits to the regions to conduct or observe hearings, and consult with the stakeholders. The Social Benefits Tribunal is characterized by the intersection of two worlds – administrative justice and social assistance. Our identity must be based upon these realities. This defines the Tribunal’s values and principles. It defines the Tribunal’s unique relationships with the government, the public, and the stakeholders. And it defines the expectations that all of us must meet. The end results of our appeals clearly show why tribunals matter so much to so many people in Ontario. If we share the same core vision, this will provide a solid foundation to examine where we are and to make the changes needed to get to where we want to be. Gary Yee Chair
